Cooperatives To Procure From Government E-Marketplace After Cabinet Okay

Union Cupboard on Wednesday accredited a proposal to develop the mandate of Authorities e-Market (GeM) by permitting procurement by cooperatives.

Presently, the registration of cooperatives as consumers was not coated throughout the present mandate of GeM.

The transfer will assist over 8.54 lakh registered cooperatives and their 27 crore members as they’d get merchandise at aggressive charges from the GeM portal.

These cooperatives will likely be benefitted from this resolution, Info and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur instructed reporters.

As per the prevailing mandate, items and providers registered on the GeM portal will not be obtainable to be used by non-public sector consumers. Suppliers (sellers) could be from throughout all segments – authorities or non-public.

GeM was launched on August 9, 2016 by the Commerce Ministry to create an open and clear procurement platform for presidency consumers.
